You have probably seen many affiliate marketing courses online and don’t know which one to choose. When it comes to affiliate marketing basics there are many places you can look to learn and many communities who would be glad to support you along the way. Before you begin your affiliate marketing course there are some basic things you should know before you start.

Make sure you choose a niche that you are passionate about. If you are choosing a subject that bores you, you will not be motivated to research that topic and keep up to date on news about that topic. If you select a niche that you are interested in, you will definitely have a boost in motivation and productivity. If you like what you are researching and writing about your content will stay bright and fresh and your audience will love you for it.

13

Choosing an affiliate marketing course isn’t the only way to learn your internet marketing basics. If you are working a full time job and you have little time or commitment then check out some free content online. There are plenty of YouTube videos with affiliate marketing tutorials for beginners and online marketing blogs that will help guide you in the right direction. Affiliate marketing websites are all over the place now. Do your research to find out which ones are the best for you. The downside to finding your information from multiple sites is that there will likely be no support or relationship created by whoever made the content. Marketing is all about creating networks and relationships in order to get ahead and get down to business.

If you choose an affiliate marketing community you are choosing support, commitment, fresh content daily, help forums and people just like you who are in the same situation. It’s like an online marketing camp. There are ways to make affiliate marketing online fun and if you join a community you will easily see how this is possible. The motivation will be greater and the productivity will be constant.

As usual, no one can tell you how to do the work or will do the work for you. You have to be the one to put in the effort and get the ball rolling. Online affiliate communities are there to give you a push in the right direction and you have to keep the wheels turning in your head and get your ideas out there into some content that’s profitable.

There are ways to learn online marketing techniques all over the place. Social media is a great free method to get your content shared and get noticed as an authority in your niche.  Facebook status updates and posts are great ways to network with friends and be social about your business. Twitter updates and Retweets are also great ways to stay in the search engines and build a loyal following. Google + and Pinterest are also great free ways to market affiliate products online. Social media is a need if you want to start an online business or sell any product through the internet.

48

You do not need to get a marketing basics high school diploma if you want to see results and start profiting. You can see results in days if you put your mind to it. Keep in mind that there will be a learning curve involved and you will get frustrated and challenge your mind but this means you are progressing.

Some main things to keep in mind:

1)      Join a community to keep you up to date with new marketing information and marketing materials. Commit to listening to a call or watching a webinar at least 3 times a week

2)      Keep a daily task journal and to do list

3)      Write down your goals. Start with small goals that are attainable and work your way towards more long term goals

4)      Choose your niche

5)      Choose products you want to sell

6)      Create a website with content and then monetize it

7)      Keep up to date on your social media

8)      Blog often and write new content as often as possible

9)      Learn about email marketing basics and how to create and grow a list

10)   Be prepared to change direction if things are not working

11)   Get the support if you are stuck: In a community, people work together to help each other succeed. Do not be afraid to ask questions or get help when necessary

Following these 10 steps will be a challenge for you. Working from home and making an income is not easy. It might take you a week to make your first dollar but once you do, you will be able to multiply your efforts and make even more money. You will start to see some marketing automation begin to work. Once you create content, it stays in the search engines and can circulate for years to come. If your content is great, it will get a good ranking and be shared many times over and over again. Your name might be on the top of Google after writing a few articles. You might be known as a marketing guru or expert by some people.

Don’t be afraid to help others. Helping others will give you a sense of fulfillment and the positive feedback you receive from helping someone is very fulfilling and will drive you to keep doing what you are doing. Don’t just do it for the money, do it for why you want the money and what you would do with the money. Be motivated by your “why” and if it’s strong enough or big enough then you will find it easy to keep growing and continue your affiliate marketing.

There are affiliate marketing courses and opportunities online that range from a few dollars to start to thousands to start. Find out a little bit more about a community before you join. It’s always better to start small and work your way up as your confidence grows. Communities like Wealthy Affiliate will teach you everything you know in order to make your first dollar online and keep it growing. Check it out to learn more about affiliate marketing and get started on your online business today.

Good luck!

Traffic is what we call the traffic coming and going of people and searches to your website. Traffic can come from a search term in a search engine. It can also come from articles and other authority websites and videos with links in them and in the video description. Networking and using business cards locally and face to face is also a great way to get traffic to your website. The newest way to get traffic is through blog posts and social media like facebook and twitter.

What you need to do in order to get lots of traffic to your website is to put yourself in front of people who are searching for something and have a website to show for it. In order to get people to find your website you need to determine what keywords people are using in the search engines to find information. This is where keywords come in.

Keyword Research Techniques
Keyword research is extremely important when it comes to getting your website in a good position in the search engines. There are many places to use keyword research tools, I use the one from my community at wealthy affiliate  It lets me know how often a keyword is searched in a month and what type of competition is out there. I look for at least 100 searches per month and a low competition number.

You may have noticed lately that when you search for something in Google your sentence gets finished for you. This is called Google Instant and it predicts and makes suggestions to show you what’s popular and trending in the search engines. These searches are the ones that are the most popular so if you are looking for keywords Google Instant can be your friend. Start with the initial keyword and then push the space, you will see a list of other keywords pop up and this might help you with your research. If you are stuck, type in a keyword, space and then the letter “a”, you will get a whole new set of keywords. You can keep going through the alphabet using your keyword and then the next letter beside it to get a great list of keywords to start with.

If you are looking for additional information on your keyword or niche the you can use Wikipedia, eHow and Thesaurus.com. You can use Wiki to find new keyword concepts, you can use eHow to find new and popular questions related to your niche and you can use Thesaurus.com for new phrases and words related to your keywords.

The search engines want quality content. More words doesn’t mean better content. 400 words and great keywords are all you need to rank in the search engines.

Make sure you put the keyword in your title and then in the first paragraph of your text. Write the rest of the content naturally and do not worry about keyword stuffing the rest of your material. Make sure you link your article or blog post to your website or affiliate link in order to see the benefits of gaining traffic. Once your article or blog post is complete you will want to use social media to share it and also use social bookmarks to share it.

When I’m finished with an article or blog post I

1) Post it to Google+

2) Post it to Facebook

3) Post it to Twitter

4) Social bookmark (Digg)

5) Social bookmark (Stumbleupon)

6) Social bookmark (Reddit).

I use http://www.addthis.com/bookmark.php for my bookmarks.

Keep it up!

We all have hopes that one day we will start a blog to make money and live off of our earnings. This dream is not so far away. I’ve been creating blogs for over 3 years and I have definitely learned what NOT to do and what are the best ways of starting a blog to make money. With the help of a few friends I have discovered what it really takes to make a blog that matters.

Anyone can start a blog but not everyone can profit from it. You need to learn what the right topic to blog about is,  what kind of design will work for you and your niche, what domain name to choose, how to create a social media strategy, what kind of content thrives on Google,  how to build an audience, how to get ranked fast, and how to generate a brand and a following.

These topics cannot be learned overnight. It takes patience, dedication and a whole lot of heart to be able to start a blog to make money. If you keep the benefits in mind it will propel you forward to do the work.

Maybe it can be easy! My friend Corbett has set up a step by step course to do exactly all of the above. There are over 13 lessons and videos with specific action plants to help you start a blog to make money and create a blog that matters. This course will teach you everything you need to know and it has helped hundreds of bloggers so far.

Getting someone to become a lead (A) and getting someone to buy your product (B) usually does not happen from a direct path. We all want our prospects to go from point A to B the quickest. Sometimes there needs to be a few more steps before someone is interested in pulling out their credit card. Here are some ways you can convert your leads to buyers.

Do you wonder why most of your prospects ignore you after point A? Chances are if they signed up to your list they are on other lists as well. Perhaps your emails are going into their junk mail or never even being read. This happens to everybody, don’t take it personally.

It is not your job to convince everyone that your product is better than everyone else’s. If you get some unsubscribes or complaints, all you can do is focus on the messages that are being opened and understand that not everyone will see value or be interested in what you do. You are only looking for those who believe in your products and there are plenty of fish in the internet ocean.

Do You Have a Blog Yet?

Your blog is an easy way to gather attention from many different perspectives and bring prospects into your funnels.  Opt in forms, call to actions and banner ads are great ways to target different types of buyers.

Stick to one niche. If you’re talking about puppies and trying to sell plants then your blog is going to look pretty chaotic and you will definitely lose some readers.

Try not to have too much different information in the same spot. I have different tabs at the top of my blog with categories so it’s easier to find the information you are looking for. You can also add a search bar for convenience.

If you make a blog update, email it to your leads. If you continually put valuable information in front of them they will be more likely to come back for more and be open to what you are selling.

The Power of the Landing Page?

Even if you have a great landing page not everyone should be directed to it. Generating a large amount of leads usually comes from a variety of marketing methods. Here are some suggestions for pointing your leads to their next step:

Classified ads and banners: direct your prospects straight to your landing page

Videos: direct your prospects to your blog

Facebook: direct your prospects to your blog posts and videos

Twitter: direct your prospects to your blog posts, videos and landing page

Business cards: direct your prospects to your blog and landing page

Blog: direct your prospects to your funnels

Those leads will convert to sales in a variety of different ways; it might take a few phone calls or a couple of emails. Be patient, if your products are good and you are honest then sales will happen.

It’s rare that a prospect will go all in and buy something directly off of your website but when you are getting thousands of viewers a day this starts to happen more often. If you are just starting out, the sales will trickle in. When you believe in your products and are confident you will get better prospects and much better conversion rates.

Make it Simple

Make sure your pages are congruent and simple. If someone opts in to receive a free eBook, make sure they receive it and that they are not directly put into a sales funnel.

The Importance of Value

Don’t forget about value. Everything you do should be 25% or less about the sale and 75% about valuable quality content which helps you build your brand. If people know you, like you and trust you they will choose your products over your competitions.

Our job as marketers is to make the transition from A to B as simple as possible. Be patient, provide quality and value and you will see the process of converting leads to buyers simple.

Being patient pays off. There are no secrets to advertising your business for free online. Hard work and consistency is your best bet if you want to save on advertising dollars. Investing in a business can be costly. Being afraid of spending money on advertising your business usually comes right after the initial investment is made. I was extremely fearful in the beginning about spending money on advertising and never seeing a penny come back. That’s how I got into the world of studying free advertising methods that work.

Let me break down simplest free online advertising methods that work…

Social Media: Where the Party is…

Unless you have been living in a cave for the last 5 years you have probably heard of Facebook and Twitter. These 2 social media sites have been working tremendously for me and my business. Social media is a place to party, network with friends and meet new buddies. It’s not a place to spam your business and hope that everyone buys your stuff and leaves you alone.

Social media is about building your brand, establishing yourself as a leader and getting prospects to choose you over someone else.

You can do this by posting 25% or less of your links about your business and the other 75% of your links as valuable content. (I.e. blog posts, videos or a free product related to your prospects needs)

Your Daily Checklist:  Facebook

  • Post a new status every 1-2 days
  • Introduce yourself to new friends with a friendly message about why you connected with them
  • Delete spam off of your wall
  • Reply to your comments and thank others for “liking” your content
  • Respond to messages as soon as you can
  • Add pictures when you have new ones
  • Add your recent valuable video or blog post that you have created

For more ways you can market on Facebook check out my free Facebook eBook and video course http://www.LarkMiller.com/Facebook

Twitter: A Little Birdie Told Me….

Twitter is a little more of a popularity contest. The more followers you have, the more people you have to advertise your business too. You need to give out your best stuff on Twitter. People on Twitter see links all day popping up and they will be clicking on only the links that appear interesting.

Make your headlines awesome. Drive curiosity, fear, excitement with your headlines to receive more clicks and views.

Twitter will help you get views to your blog, business and videos but the conversions are sometimes weak. I use Twitter to get my content viewed and ranked in the search engines. Getting the sale from a tweet is rare but it does happen if you are consistent with your valuable tweets.

Your Daily Twitter Checklist

  • Follow as many people as you can
  • Use SocialOomph to automate your tweets. Tweet every 1-3 hours if possible
  • Make sure your content is 25% or less business sales and 75% valuable content
  • Check your direct messages and your @replies and respond if need be.

Videos: Your Face In Front of Billions

If you like doing videos for your business make 1 every day you can. If you don’t like doing videos then don’t bother making any. People will see right through you and if you’re not happy or excited about what you are doing, you will not be able to be consistent with it. Videos are not for everyone.

Upload your videos to YouTube and share them with your email list, Facebook and Twitter friends. To get more views make sure you have great keywords so you will show up in the search engines.

If you dislike being in front of a camera you can always use CamStudio or Camtasia to create a slide show and voice over it.

Joint Ventures: Find an Income Partner

Do you know someone with a huge email list? Take advantage of that! If you have great products and you know your conversion rates well then talk to someone about doing a joint venture. Offer them a cut of your profits or upfront money to blast your email to their list. This is probably the quickest way to generate leads using free advertising methods.

If you are stuck trying to find people with big lists then you can always search Facebook for groups that are popular and active. Talk to the admin of that group and ask them if they would like to work with you and do a joint venture.

Articles: The Organic Goldmine

Articles are a great way to get your content and your name in the search engines. Make sure you have competitive keywords and you have something valuable to write about. Submit your article to Ezine first, then a few other free article sites once it has been approved.

Articles stay in the search engines forever. You can write an article and 4 years from now get a sale from it. This is a type of organic search method where you can do something 1 time and benefit from it for life.

Make sure your resource box has a great headline and brings people over to your landing page or blog for more information on what they read in the article.

Blogging: Your Automated Circle of Income

You need to have a blog in order to be successful with advertising your business for free online. Blogging is my favourite free advertising method. Your blog is like a central hub for all of your content. It ties your business, videos, social media sites, articles and your brand together.

Your blog is where people can read your story, see your products, come back for more information and even opt in to buy something :)

Tie Everything Together

Make sure some of your blog content is keyword loaded so your blog can get ranked and get tons of viewers. Once your articles are approved, turn them into posts and videos.

Add your Follow me Twitter Button and Facebook badge to your blog page. Follow LarkAMiller on Twitter

Add your videos into your posts. (I did a recent survey and most people liked having the option of reading and watching a video on the same page.) Place your video just above the post and you will benefit both types of learning methods.

Try not to fill your blog with too many ads. I know it’s tempting to make a few bucks off of Adsense but half of the time the ads do not relate to your content and it will throw off some of your readers. If you are trying to make some coin from your blog try placing an affiliate link related to your products and content.

So there you have it. 5 Simple free advertising methods that work!

  • Joint Ventures

Okay so you have created an awesome blog with a cool header that took you 10 hours to create. Your Adsense and affiliate ads are all placed and you’ve made a few posts. It’s been a few weeks and your blog is still not showing up on Google.  Do not get frustrated, I will tell you why this is happening.

Getting your blog ranked fast does not happen overnight. In the beginning your blog is just another page on the trillions of quadrillions of sites on the internet. This page is lost and is wandering aimlessly trying to find a search engine to float on. It is your job to get your blog in the search engines.

Has Google ever called your house to ask you if you have found everything you were searching for today? Probably not. The same goes with your blog. Google or any other search engine is not going to come find you and cater to your blog overnight just because your site is pretty.  You need to earn Google’s trust and credibility before they allow you to show up on their property.

Get Your Blog Ranked Faster

It took a while for my blog to show up on the big G but after learning why and how search engine optimization works with blogs, I’ve been able to get some kick ass results from my blog posts on Google.

1. Quality Content

No one cares about the pretty pictures or niche ads. No one cares about your life troubles or what your dog did that day. You need to have legitimate QUALITY CONTENT. You want to make everyone come to your site first for advice on your chosen topic.

Make your content extremely valuable so your readers can share it with their friends and will come back repeatedly for more. If your content is in a competitive market then your blog needs to be better than every other blog out there.  Sorry but no one said this was easy…. It takes TIME and EFFORT to get your blog ranked fast.

2. Have a Niche

You cannot just blog about something from your favourite actor one day to how to train your puppy the next and expect your blog to be under every category in Google. Stick to a niche that you like and that you ENJOY learning and reading about. It will be hard to blog about something you are not interested in. Stick with what you know and what you like studying.

Never stop being a student in your niche. If you stop learning about your blogging subject then your posts stop, your readers lose interest and they will find someone else who is more consistent with their posts! Getting your blog ranked fast will require you to have consistent, quality and entertaining content.

3.  Make Someone Smile

Do not write bad reviews or post about grumpy things. Your readers are coming to you for tips and advice. They should leave your posts with motivation to read more posts or an action step that will help them better their moods and lives. Your job is to make people excited and enjoy your blog and niche.

4.  Stop Being Selfish

Taking 10 minutes to write a product review that was copied and pasted is not going to get you loyal readers and a large following. It is NOT ABOUT YOU, it’s about your readers. Try giving your posts time and effort. If you don’t have something to write that day then write another day when you are inspired by something new you learned.

A bad post is worse than no post at all. Throwing a crappy post on your blog in a few minutes is like barfing on your own blog. Just like your mom told you to clean your room, keep your blog clean too!

5.  Share Your Secrets!

Holding onto your biggest secrets is a waste of time and potential money. You know the saying “put your best foot forward?” It applies to your blog too.  If you have an idea for a great piece of content then write it out ASAP. Your readers are waiting for it and will love you and come back to your blog more often if you share your greatest secrets.

6.  Always Remember Your Keywords

Keywords give your blog a place to perch in the search engines. All you need is to have your keywords 4 times to get your blog ranked fast in the search engines. Make sure you have your keywords once in your title, twice in your post content and once in your tags or keyword box. If you forget to do this you have wasted your time!

The more keywords the merrier does not apply in this case. Try not to overuse your keywords in your content, it will make your content cheesy and the search engines might think it is spam.  Having your keywords 2 or 3 times in your content is enough to get you some stellar results in the search engines. (for a free video on choosing great keywords click here)

TIP: If you are using WordPress the “All in one SEO pack plugin” Is great to help your blog get in the search engines.

7.  Get More Views

Sharing content is so simple. Insert the facebook share or tweet buttons to allow your readers to share your posts with their friends. If your blog is shared on twitter, facebook and some social bookmarking sites, Google will be much more likely to represent your blog too. If you are getting lots of viewers to your blog you will get much better rankings.

Try to encourage your readers to share your content by an action step at the end of your posts.

QUICK TIP: If you are using WordPress you can install the “Sexy Bookmarks Plugin” and it will allow your readers to share your content on various popular sites at the click of a button.

If you are not using WordPress check out my other post on installing the Tweet and Share buttons on your website.

The following 3 tips for generating more leads online with blogging will help you ramp up your blog and get some quality leads with little effort! These are simple tricks and techniques to get the maximum benefits of using a blog for marketing your business.

1) Opt in Forms

Make sure you have access to an opt in form creator and place opt in forms on your blog sidebars. You can do this by using a blog template that has the capability for editing and creating widgets. Blogger and WordPress are great options.

Generate different opt in forms for your affiliate links and valuable free information. Be sure to check out your statistics and sign up rate and adjust or edit your opt in forms for better conversion rates. A system like Aweber has many different opt in templates at a very low cost.

2) Call to Action

When you create a blog post, a video or any new content on your blog make sure you have a call to action telling your viewers where to go to get more great content or more information. Without a call to action, you might be missing out on leads that like your content but do not know where to get more of it. Your call to action could be to check out your facebook page for a free eBook or subscribe to your YouTube channel for a free marketing video. Make sure there is something valuable to offer your viewers in your call to action.

3) Videos

Having videos on your blog is becoming more popular and the word Vlogging (video-blogging) is more common. Videos allow you to show prospects that there is a real person behind your products and business and it will make you and your brand more legitimate. Using videos, you will be able to engage others and gain quality and loyal leads in the long run.

Another secret to having videos on your blog is that you will be able to engage your viewer for more time than a regular blog post. If you have engaged viewers going to your blog and staying there for longer periods of time, your blog will be better ranked in the search engines.

These are just a few tips for generating more leads online with blogging. Implementing these techniques will grow your following; visitors and lead opt in conversions.

OK so you have written a blog, that’s a great start! What you need to do next is get your blog out there to the viewers. The more traffic you receive, the better your content will appear in the search engines. What you are aiming for, of course is spot #1 on Google. Knowing how to get traffic to your blog will save you time, money and help you generate quality leads.
Make sure you do your keyword research and choose a blog domain name and title that is competitive but not saturated. Aim for keywords with less than 300,000 hits on Google by doing a quoted search. Now that you know you have great keywords you can learn how to get traffic to your blog.
Social media is a great way to make friends and network with others to share your content and get many visits to your blog. Make sure you have something of value to offer. Social media is about giving! The more you give, the more you will notice people coming to you instead of you having to reach out to them.
Once you have made a few quality content posts on your blog. Use a social bookmarking site and post your blog links on the bookmarking sites. This will help share your content with the search engines and others who type in your keywords. Make your titles compelling and appealing to click!
You will also need to update your blog 2-4 times a week. The search engines love new content and the more you have, the more credible you will be to Google. Google rewards great content. Quantity is not better than quality in this case!
Another great way to get more traffic to your blog is to post your blog link in your signatures in emails, forums and all of your social media profiles. Just remember that free techniques, are usually slower ways and getting traffic to your blog takes patience and practice but once you master it, you will never need to look back!
Good luck!

Blogging is one of the top free ways to advertise your business. If you enjoy writing, posting pictures and being creative, blogging might be your best method to generate free leads for your business. The best part about blogging is that anybody can get their blog to show up number one on Google and you do not have to pay to be up there.

Using blogs to advertise is a great way to show your brand and establish yourself as a leader. You are able to post pictures of yourself, business conventions, products and anything you desire to help create your brand. Unlike writing articles, you are able to post websites, videos and other neat gadgets surrounding your posts. This is the real benefit to blogging.

The content that goes into blogs should be a little bit about you and even more about your business, benefits and products. “How to” posts will help you get a lot more traffic then than regular posts about a product. These posts should engage the user to look at your links and business products. If you write a “how to” post, then you will be seen as a leader. If people would like to know more about where you get your information they will browse around your blog and look for your contact information or check out your links.

It’s all about giving. The more content and quality that you share with other, the more followers and subscribers you will get. Blogger and WordPress are great places to create free blogs. For maximum Google exposure your content must be updated 2-4 times a week and shared with lots of people.

Here are some more helpful tips to get traffic to your blog links. At the end of each post, make sure you have your name, and a business link to drive people to your website. This will get you more exposure of your name and your business links on Google. Another way to drive traffic to your links and websites is to add gadgets and widgets on your side bar.

If you have articles, a Facebook account, a twitter account, opt in forms, videos and other content that you have created you can put these sources as a widget or badge into your blogger sidebar. This will give you backlinks to your content and create even more traffic.

There are many free ways to advertise using blogging techniques. Keep in mind that it’s quality over quantity that matter. The more value you have to one person, the better chance you have that they will share your website with them.
